Original Vintage 1960s Ercol Windsor Model 468 Sideboard

This medium size, English elm sideboard by Ercol, is a British design classic from the ever-popular Windsor range.  An expertly crafted piece of furniture with many of Ercol’s signature features on show, like the dovetail joints on the corners and inset oval handles, it epitomises the form and function aesthetic, where beautiful design meets domestic practicality. The honeyed wood grain across the exterior surfaces, especially the top, is outstanding with so much variance and richness within the patina. The grain is a standout feature of vintage Ercol with later models having a more uniform, plainer finish. With two generous cupboards (one with double doors, one smaller) and two spacious drawers, it’s such a versatile piece and would be a welcome addition to pretty much any room, fitting easily in with pieces of other styles and wood types. This particular 468 model was produced from 1962-1985 and the blue label design on this one dates it to the sixties so a rare, early piece is exceptional original condition.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise we’ve left the original finish alone as it’s in such exceptional order throughout. All three cupboard doors align and their closures work as they should. Inside the right hand cupboard there is a removable cutlery drawer with adjustable dividers. The main cupboard features a height adjustable shelf. The cupboard interiors are in good clean, tidy order. Both bottom drawers slide in and out with ease, and the internal woodwork here is in very good order too. The sideboard sits on its original castors which move freely and with ease. It’s a beautifully crafted piece as you would expect from Ercol with dovetail joints and the signature oval inset handles. The original Ercol blue label is in place, dating this sideboard to the 1960s. Do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its superb condition throughout.
