Original Vintage 1960s Ercol Goldsmith Carver Dining Chair

Ercol’s appeal endures as is the way with classic design and quality craftsmanship, and this Goldsmith carver chair, dating from the 1960s, really showcases this. It’s a fine-looking piece made from solid elm and beech ‘blond’ woods with a tall, spindled back and generous seat height and width, providing much comfort for long, slow dinner parties. That said, Ercol’s carver chairs make excellent desk seats and occasional chairs, perhaps in a bedroom or hallway. This chair has been carefully cleaned, oiled and waxed to retain as much as the original finish as possible.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned, oiled and waxed retaining some of its original finish. The chair is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or joint concerns, but there are minor scuffs and marks as you would expect with a used, vintage chair. There is also some faint fading to the colour of the wood behind the spindles. The chair has clearly sat by a window in the sunlight. We don’t feel this detracts from the appeal of the piece though. It’s not hugely noticeable. The original Ercol sticker is no longer affixed to the back of the seat, however this was acquired with a set of four other Goldsmith chairs and one of those has the dark blue ‘Made in England’ Ercol sticker in place, dating the set to the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall great condition.
