Authentic Vintage School Science Lab Bench & Four Stools
A fantastic salvaged set full of nostalgia and charm, this vintage science laboratory table and accompanying four bench stools carry the marks of their busy former life on pretty much every surface! Look carefully and you will find compass scratches, doodles and names etched into the wood. Although clean, we’ve taken great care not to remove too much of its history as this is, of course, a large part of its appeal. We absolutely love this set and its renovation has been done with thought and love. The table top is mahogany so a deeper, more forgiving. It’s hard, resilient qualities that made it perfect for school-use will serve well in the home too. This would make a excellent, quirky island and / or breakfast bar in the modern kitchen. It was originally made to be used a great deal and it will stand up to whatever family life has to throw at it!
Description
This is an original, salvaged set that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. It’s comprises of five separate pieces – 4 x wooden stools and 1 x school science bench. The bench table has been thoroughly cleaned and the mahogany table top has been sanded, oiled and polished. The four accompanying stools have been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. Structurally all of the individual pieces are sound, solid and sturdy with no repairs visible. However, as you might expect with school furniture it comes with knocks, scribbles and scratches! We’ve deliberately not been too invasive with restoring these pieces, leaving many of the marks and drawings in place as we believe its part of its history and narrative. These were well-built, utilitarian constructions meant to take a lot of heavy wear and tear. The bench dates from the 1970’s and looks to be similar to those produced for schools by McIntosh (although unfortunately as there is no longer a makers label we can’t verify this). The lab stools are newer and made by Remploy.
