Original Rare 1960s G Plan Limba Side Table with Drawer
When Leslie Dandy designed the Limba range for G Plan in the 1960s, he was rather ahead of his time. Combining sharp-lined wood with ‘champagne silver’ metal legs, handles and frames, his designs were industrial and cutting edge, a big departure from what G Plan had taken to market before. It was not at all well received by the public and sadly the Limba range was short-lived, it’s production ending abruptly. Despite hailing from the early 1960s, it feels more seventies but also very ‘now’ and contemporary. We love the range, even though the pieces are few and far between. This neat little table would’ve been half of a pair, as bedside stands. On its own, it’s a super side table for a favourite chair, or occasional piece for a hallway perhaps.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the wood but otherwise the original varnished finish has been left well alone as it’s in such good order. The single, slimline drawer is made with dovetail joins, slides with ease and is clean and tidy inside. The E Gomme gold stamp can be seen on the bottom of the drawer. The silver metal frame and handle have some very minor, discreet scratches to be expected given its age but is overall in very good condition. The four black feet caps are in good place and good order. The exterior wood also has some minor chips and scuffs but again these are discreet, and it’s very light wear and tear. This little table is solid and sturdy with no areas of concern or repairs.
