Original Midcentury Danish Woven Chair by Arne Hovmand-Olsen For Mogens Kold

A 1960’s design classic, this seagrass woven chair was designed by Arne Hovmand-Olsen for Mogens Kold. Lots of the leading Scandinavian designers produced designs for Mogens Kold, cutting their teeth there and then moving on in their own right or partnering with other furniture makers. At a glance this chair is a simply and cleanly designed but look closely and there are subtle, thoughtful flourishes, like the tilt of the back rest and its triangular profile shape, the taper at the top of the back supports, those long, teak legs and the woven pattern. It’s a well-considered, balanced piece. The seagrass seat is in exceptional condition (they rarely are this good) with no areas of weakness or repairs. Sadly we only have the one but these do make comfortable desk chairs as well as handsome occasional chairs for a hall or bedroom.
