Original Midcentury Danish ERAN ‘Diplomat’ Armchair in Red Brown Leather
Aage Christiansen designed many signature sofas and chairs for ERAN (Erhardsen and Andersen) in the 1960s, including the timeless Diplomat range with its characteristic, rolling arms and superior build quality . Unusually finished in a fox red brown leather, this chair is an extremely comfortable sit, featuring a separate sprung unit underneath the seat cushions for added bounce and comfort. This is a chair that looks good from all sides so would be ideal for an open plan space. A much sought-after, collector’s piece of classic, Danish midcentury that has so much to offer in today’s interiors where good quality, vintage leather is a practical and stylish choice.
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very-good, used condition. The leather upholstery has been cleaned and a nourishing leather balm applied. The two cushions are in very good order with working zips and plump inners. The seat carries some minor marks and areas of fading which can be seen in our photos. We don’t believe this detracts from the appeal of the chair and this kind of wear is in line with its age and use. The fixed upholstery on the chair frame is also in very good order. Again, there is some aging and wrinkling to the leather here and there but this is very much the style and appeal of vintage leather. There is wear to the finishing cloth underneath the cushions, most notably on the back. This isn’t visible and is unlikely to deteriorate further in our view. The chair is superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. The long, tapered teak legs are in excellent order. There is no maker’s mark on the frame but this is a well-documented design by Aage Christiansen for ERAN in the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the great condition of this item.
