Original Midcentury 1970s G Plan Form Five Shelf Unit

Designed by R Bennett for G Plan, as part of his late 1960s / early 1970s Form Five range, this freestanding, multi-functional unit serves as storage and display space in one handsome piece. Tall but shallow in depth and tidy in width, it would work well in a small room where going up is better than going wide. This particular set up features cupboards and plenty of open shelves, and of course, the signature sliding ‘Form Five’ doors that cleverly run behind each other.  It’s a two-part piece with the upper section sitting on the deeper base. These versatile units offer more flexibility than built-in shelves.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. It’s a two part, freestanding piece where the upper section simply sits on the base. The upper section features a double door top cupboard, two adjustable shelves, two fixed shelves (one being the top of the drawer section) and two small drawers. Closures, hinges and interiors are all in good order with light signs of wear and tear, as shown across our photos. Minor knocks and scuffs here and there, and also some marks and nips on sides, also shown. The base cupboard features the signature ‘Form Five’ sliding doors that push back and slide behind each other. These are in good, working order, sliding with ease in their runners. The cupboard interior is clean and tidy and has a fixed section in the middle. There are a couple of light scuffs and knocks here and there which we’ve also shown. The G Plan red logos can be seen on both the upper and base sections.
