Original 1970’s Norwegian Leather Bentwood Chair
A smart, stylish Norwegian 1970’s bentwood chair, most likely by Westnofa Furniture. It’s as comfortable as you might expect with the right tilt and it is in great condition. It’s the flow of the richly toned bentwood that makes these chairs so eye-catching from the bends of the legs to the curves of the arms. And it looks striking from all sides. A fine, neutral piece as a standalone chair or to mix with other seating.
These is a used, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. The chair has been thoroughly cleaned and leather nourished. It’s soft and supple. There are some wrinkles and signs of wear on the leather cushions, most notably on the chair front and the buttons but these are minimal. We noticed when we removed the joined cushions to clean the piece that one of the zips has aged and broken. It’s been repaired by the zip being stitched together. We don’t believe this is an particular issue – the design means that this join / zip sits deeply into the V at the back of the chair so isn’t at all noticeable nor is it likely to deteriorate. Furthermore, as the both of the cushions are buttoned you cannot remove the covers anyway without removing the buttons so the zips themselves do not serve a great deal of purpose. That said, we have reflected this repair in the price. The finishing leather and straps under the cushions are in excellent condition. The dark bentwood frame is structurally sound and sturdy. Again, there are some minor scuffs and scratches in line with its age. Overall this chair is in very good condition. The original maker’s sticker is sadly no longer affixed to the underside of the chair but we’ve considerable experience with these chairs and we’re confident it’s attributed to Westnofa.
