Vintage 1960s Early Nathan Book Cabinet

A truly practical piece, offering versatility and lots of storage, whichever room in the modern home it lands in. Made by British furniture maker, Nathan, it dates from the 1960s and is really well made and thoughtfully designed. Sitting on neat legs, it’s rather more refined and compact than a conventional vintage highboard that can be huge, bulky beasts. This is somewhere between sideboard, highboard, bookcase and display cabinet – it’s got it all! A solid, reliable piece of midcentury furniture from the Brit camp.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the cabinet and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but have otherwise left the original finish well alone. The interior is in superb, clean order throughout. It features a small, glass-front bookcase at the top and a larger one lower down with a height-adjustable shelf, both with sliding double doors. There are also two cupboards. All exterior surfaces, including the top, are in very good condition with only very minor superficial marks here and there, in line with the piece’s age. The legs carry some scuffs and knocks but again these are minor and aren’t really noticeable. This cabinet is really well-made, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The early Nathan maker’s sticker can be seen inside the cupboard door and the design dates this piece to the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
