Midcentury Green Leather Three Seater ERAN ‘Matador’ Sofa
An attributed Scandinavian design classic – the iconic ‘Matador’ sofa designed by Aage Christiansen for ERAN in the 1960s. From its expansive, sweeping arms and perfectly tilted back to its superbly comfortable sprung-front and tapered teak legs, this is a wonderful generous three seater sofa with bags of vintage charm.
This timeless, statement piece would complement any other lounge seating, either midcentury, contemporary or from other eras, from other sofas to armchairs.
It’s a very comfortable sit with just the right angle that balances good support with comfort. There is a sprung unit underneath the seat cushion which feels in excellent order and adds greatly to the comfort of the piece. It’s a sign of quality. The frame / construction of the sofa is in excellent vintage condition.
The original leather upholstery shows signs of wear and tear as you would expect with a piece of this age but is mostly in excellent condition. All six cushions are in excellent condition with no tears and with their zips in good working order. There is some wrinkling as you would expect with leather on the seat cushions but it’s minimal – this is shown in the photos. The finishing upholstery underneath the cushions is also in excellent condition – this is shown in the photos.
There are two key scuffs to flag on the leather upholstery on the frame itself. There is a tear on the underside of one of the arms which has been repaired. This isn’t very visible and as it’s hidden from show- this is shown in the photos. There is also a small slit at the top of the frame. It’s at the point where the back joins the top of the arm and again isn’t visible at all. The location of both of these flaws mean they should not deteriorate further. They have most likely happened when the sofa was in transit to the UK from Denmark.
