Midcentury Danish Purple Leather Bentwood Armchair by Ingmar Relling for Westnofa

It’s not often you see purple leather. It’s even more unusual to find in on a vintage chair but this is the original upholstery on this 1970s, Danish Westnofa bentwood ‘safari-style’ chair! We suspect it will rather polarise opinion – you will either love it or find it a bit too ‘Austin Powers’ perhaps?! Ignoring that colour for a moment, this is a classic chair design from Ingmar Relling with a black wooden flowing frame and a soft, comfortable sectioned cushion that straps into place. The floating arms in soft bands of matching leather provide gentle support for weary body. A super lounge chair in an amazing colour.

Description

These is a used, vintage chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good-excellent, original condition. The chair has been thoroughly cleaned and the purple leather nourished with leather balm. The leather is soft and supple, and the sectioned cushions are in very good order with plump inners and working zips. As you would expect with used leather, there are wrinkles and some minor paving cracks, particularly noticeable on the arms straps (these take the brunt of the wear and tear). This is part of the character of lived-in leather though. The backing canvas and strapping under the leather  cushions is also is excellent order. The blackened wooden frame is structurally sound and sturdy with no signs of repair and is in excellent condition. Sadly the original Westnofa sticker is no longer on the frame underneath but this is well-documented design so we’re confident of its make.
