Midcentury 1960s Stag Fineline Chest of Drawers by John & Sylvia Reid

Husband and wife team, John and Sylvia Reid, created a truly timeless, classic range with their Fineline domestic furniture pieces. It’s one of those rare designs that looks simultaneously vintage and contemporary at the same time. Creating for Stag, this particular range features pinstripe birch, a blonder wood with a fine-lined grain and a refreshing change to the more commonly used dark teak. Partnered with aluminium handles, a striking line of black around the base of the drawers and tubular stainless steel legs, the result is a modern, original chest of drawers. .

Description

This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. All three drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are in good, clean order internally. There are some very minor superficial marks and scuffs to the external wood surfaces, including to the black lower trim and a little tarnishing on the silver metal handles. This light wear and tear isn’t particularly noticeable and is in line with what we would expect considering this piece’s age and function. These don’t detract from its considerable appeal. There are many photos which show the super condition of the wood throughout.  The Stag maker’s stamp can be seen inside the middle drawer and it dates from the 1960s.
