Original Mid-century 1960s Danish Poul Hundevad Sideboard with Bi-fold Doors

From renowned Danish designer, Poul Hundevad, this wonderfully balanced piece of design epitomises the Scandinavian mid century aesthetic of form and function. At a glance this sideboard is simplicity itself but look closely and you can appreciate it’s a carefully considered, high-end piece of design. From the finest quality wood to the placement of the grain (vertical on the cupboard doors, horizontal on the drawer fronts) to the integrated handles to the thoughtfulness of its size and purpose, it’s then been beautifully crafted. It’s comprised of a large, left-hand cupboard with a height adjustable shelf and an unusual bi-fold door, and on the right are four generous drawers offering so much storage. We like too the proportions of this sideboard. It’s smaller and less deep than a more typical Danish vintage sideboard which makes it more practical for the modern home. This is a showstopper of a piece with a fantastic pedigree.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. It is solid wood, most likely teak, so heavy and substantial. All four drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are in good, clean order internally. There are some very minor superficial marks and scuffs to the external wood surfaces, mainly on the top. It’s a little sunlight faded here and there but nothing wildly noticeable. This doesn’t detract from its considerable appeal. There are many photos which show the super condition of the wood throughout.  The Poul Hundevad maker’s stamp can be faintly seen on the back but it is rather worn away. You can clearly see the Made in Denmark stamp and and this is on a drawer side too. It dates from the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
