Midcentury 1960s Danish Domino Mobler Light Oak Desk
Made by Domino Møbler, this handsome light oak desk hails from Denmark and comes with an excellent pedigree. Classically Scandinavian by design where good looks are as important as function, it’s got six generous drawers in banks of three and a large top surface for productive working. The symmetry, the minimalist features, like the square handles, and clean, crisp lines elevate this stylish desk from the ordinary. The back looks as good as the front too so this could be a freestanding piece if you’re lucky enough to have the space. And it’s always a joy to see light oak in our studio, a nice change from the usual teak!
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have partially restored this piece, treating the top surface with light sanding, oil and beeswax polish. The other external wood surfaces have been cleaned and polished. The six drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. They are lined grey vinyl. The right hand set of drawers has a working lock and key. The left hand side set has had the lock removed, although this doesn’t show when the drawers are shut. The external wood carries very minor knocks and scuffs, including some small veneer chips in the leg area and on one of the drawer fronts, but this is commensurate with its age and function as a ‘working’ piece. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of this piece’s order. This is a very well-made piece that’s solid and sturdy. The maker’s mark can be seen underneath the desk.
