Midcentury 1960s British Solid Teak Writing Bureau

This is a superb vintage writing bureau, offering a practical, neat work-space and also generous storage with three drawers and further room for items to be stowed in the top section. British-made in the 1960s, it is thoughtfully designed with its use and good looks in mind – we love the long legs and the raised edge on the top. It’s very well made in solid teak so a fine quality item with many years of service left to give. Bureaus offers a great solution for home-workers or for child / family rooms where a desk is sometimes needed but a conventional one is too big and intrusive.

Description

This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good vintage condition. We have cleaned the bureau and applied a natural wax polish. All drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are in clean, tidy order internally. The drop-down door to the top section also moves with ease and it’s hinges and closure are in good order too. Sadly we don’t have the key. As you can see from our photos the top section features pigeon holes and to smaller drawers – this is also in clean, tidy order throughout. There are some superficial, faint scuffs and scratches to the external wood but these are in line with what we would expect from a ‘working’ piece of this vintage. These can be seen on the drawer fronts and sides. These marks are primarily to the finish only – if it troubled, you could apply a coloured wax or polish to remove / disguise them. There is also a small dent on the top surface shown in our photos. Sadly there is a no maker’s mark which is a great shame as it’s a really expertly well made and beautifully designed. We do know that it’s British in origin.
