Large Vintage 1950s Cantilever Sewing Box on Castors with Contents
A traditional sewing box like this has so much old-fashioned appeal. It’s not hard to imagine it being used in the post-war home, packed with home-sew projects, knits in progress and embroidery. These days a large sewing box table like this can be used for many things from occasional table to bedside stand to bathroom storage… and of course it remains a useful, practical hobby box too. Sitting on long legs with castors, this is more of a table than box. There’s lots of space for organising with two lidded, cantilever top trays, a deep bottom section and a sectioned drawer. We’ve included some of the original contents found on the sewing box too. There is a large array of Sylko cottons, some on wooden reels, along with numerous knitting needles and crochet hooks. A vintage piece with considerable charm.

This original, vintage sewing table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the exterior wood and applied a natural beeswax polish. The fabric-lined interiors has been gently vacuumed. There are some marks on the fabric but nothing unpleasant – please refer to our photos. The lower drawers slides with ease and is sectioned. The hinges and cantilever mechanisms are in good, working order. The castors are also in good, working order and move with ease. The table / sewing is well made and sturdy with no repairs apparent. There are some minor scuffs and marks on the external wood but this is commensurate with its age and function. We’ve included some of the original contents including many old, wooden Sylko cotton reels and a wide range of knitting needles. There is no maker’s mark on the box but its style and build leads us to believe it dates from the 1950s.
