Large Vintage 1970s Pedestal Desk by Carson with Leather Inlaid Desktop

A seriously impressive and substantial vintage desk for someone that means business. Made by COF, Carson Office Furniture, it dates from the seventies and although practicality and function have clearly been put first, the design is immediately identifiable as mid century with an industrial, rather Brutalist feel. It comes with loads of office storage across its drawers but it’s the width of the desktop itself that is so impressive. It’s very long at over 1.8m so ideal for someone who needs to lay out plans or creative work with ample room to spread out. The original green leather desktop softens this desk, breaking up the expanse of teak and it makes for a comfortable work surface.

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the external wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. There are five drawers in total, three on the left and two on the right. All drawers slide with ease, have secure handles and clean, tidy interiors. The lower right hand drawer is double height originally intended for hanging files. Sadly there is no key for the locks. The desk top is inlaid with its original green leather that has an embossed border. We have cleaned it with a specialist leather cleaner. There are some light marks and a little fading here and there but otherwise it’s in good condition. The exterior surfaces do carry minor knocks, marks and signs of wear as you would expect with a piece of this significant age and function. Do refer to our photos for a accurate sense of its order. It’s well-crafted, very solid and stable. The maker’s label can be found inside the top right drawer.
