Large Vintage 1940’s Solid Oak Office Desk
With home working now the new norm for many, demand for desks has risen. This large, stately office desk, made in solid dark oak with generous proportions and bags of practical storage with nine drawers and pull-out writing leaves, has considerable old-fashioned character and appeal. It may lack the design finesse of its Scandinavian counterparts, but it’s superbly made with function the priority. And it looks grand partnered with a more modern chair.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good, used condition. We’ve given the piece a superficial clean but have left the original marks and scuffs well alone as in our eyes these are very much part of its character and appeal. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of what the desk looks like. It’s extremely well made and it’s a substantial, heavy piece in solid oak. There are no wobbles or repairs. The drawers are made with dovetail joints and slide with ease. The two top drawers on either side have fixed dividers in them. The writing leaves pull out. There are some ink stains and marks inside the drawers and as you can see the desk top is marked. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but this is a British, early midcentury piece, mostly likely dating from the 1940s-1950s.
