Large Antique Early 20th Century Dark Oak Pedestal Desk

As impressive, characterful, traditional desks go, this one is ticking the boxes. Dating from the early part of the 20th century, most likely 1930s, this is a British-origin, pedestal desk in solid oak (so it’s heavy when assembled!) with huge amounts of storage across eight drawers below. This is a large working piece with an expansive desktop and an impressive presence. It means business and you can see that in the marks and bruises across its surfaces. It’s served its previous owners well and although worn, it has much to offer. The really unique thing about this desk is that it can be easily dismantled and reassembled in situ, an important and practical detail given its substantial size and weight. It breaks down into three main sections – the desktop and the two drawer pedestals. There are simple screws, brackets and joists to keep it stable and secure.

Full Condition Report
This vintage unit desk is ‘sold as seen’. It has been thoroughly cleaned and serviced, and the wooden surfaces have been buffed with a natural beeswax polish to revive shine but otherwise the finish is original. As you can clearly see in our photos, there are knocks, blemishes, scuffs and chips across its surfaces in line with its age and purpose. There are eight drawers in total, some with removeable dividers in place. The drawers are wonderfully made with dove tail joints and secure handles. They slide with ease and have clean interiors with light marks here and there. The lower right hand drawer is double height. There are also two pull-out platforms above each bank of drawers. The desk dismantles into three main sections and it would be delivered in its component parts, requiring assembly once in situ but this is an easy, straightforward job. There are screws, brackets and two joists to keep everything solid and stable. It’s a clever thoughtful design for such a large item. There are no repairs or areas of concern, other than the superficial wear and tear shown. It’s a quality piece that’s really well-made, although sadly there is no maker’s mark. Do browse our photos for an accurate representation of its condition. Any queries or like to view? Just get in touch.
