Large 1970’s British Midcentury Teak Chest of Drawers

Although it no longer bears the makers label, our exhaustive research has revealed that this chest of drawers was made by Elliott’s of Newbury. It dates specifically from 1970 (there is a date stamp on the back) and it has the most striking design with long, distinctive black inlaid handles. Incredible craftsmanship has gone into these handles alone – see the detail in our photos. British-made, it’s a particularly handsome piece of design and expertly made too. There are all kinds of stamps on this piece, even a torn label stapled to the back of one of the drawers.  It features four large drawers with a hidden slim, top drawer for ties, underwear or socks. This large chest of drawers would add a touch of class to any boudoir.

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished it. All five drawers have dovetail joints and slide with ease and are in immaculate condition. The key area with wear in the top surface which, as you can see from our photos, has some faint ring marks and areas of fading. We have opted not to sand and refinish it but this could be gently done to try and eliminate some of the marks if you found them problematic. The price reflects this wear. We can see no signs of repair nor have we undertaken any repairs ourselves. There are various stamps and marks on this piece but sadly none of these have lead us to establish the maker. Our photos give a good sense of this item’s condition so please do browse.
