Rare Vintage 1960s Nathan Solid Teak Sideboard
A neatly proportioned teak sideboard, made by Nathan in the late 1960s and we believe it to be a very rare model – we can only find one other online, listed and sold some time ago handle design. Nathan was a British brand, established in the early 20th century, making good quality, fairly traditional furniture for the average home. However, in 1963, it caught up with its contemporaries, and officially went ‘Scandinavian’ using solid teak with more streamlined, modern designs. In the late sixties they moved upmarket with more unusual, cutting-edge, motifs such as the more commonly seen ‘circle’ sideboard, and we believe that this particular sideboard hails from this period too. It’s beautifully constructed with the most unusual integrated handles and curved leg supports, a change from the usual tapered legs seen on vintage sideboard. A very handsome item of vintage furniture with practical application in the home – there’s bags of storage!
Description
This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good vintage condition. The two cupboards feature a fixed shelf and the door closures are in good order. The three central drawers slide with ease and have feature visible dovetail joints. The top drawer is sectioned for cutlery. All interior wood is in very good, clean order. Likewise, so is the external wood, as you can see from our photos. There are some minor marks and scuffs over the sideboard but these are in line with the piece’s age and do not detract from the appeal of the piece. The main area with marks is, as you would expect, the top surface – please refer to our photos to see the condition here. The original Nathan label is inside the top drawer along with two of the original sales tags. The piece is very well-made, solid and sturdy. We can see no repairs.
