Midcentury G Plan Form 5 Teak Low Sideboard with Sliding Doors

The appeal of vintage G Plan sideboards endures and it’s no wonder. They are such well-made, handsome pieces with practicality in mind. Originally this was the base section of a much taller shelf unit. Now repurposed as a low sideboard with the rather dated upper section gone, it’s stylish and discreet in equal measure. Its height and depth make it an ideal media unit, perfect for the television or turntable. And speaking of records, vinyl fits easily into the cupboards. We love the door mechanism of G Plan’s Form 5 pieces. A gentle push to the middle join, sends the doors back for sliding open in parallel on runners. It’s very neat engineering and gives a sleek, clean finish to the front.

This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the sideboard and applied a natural beeswax polish. As you would expect with G Plan, it’s a well-made item that’s superbly constructed. Both doors slide with ease, and their runners and closures are in very good working order. Originally this would have been the lower, detachable section of a highboard and that’s why there are some faint sun-faded patches on the top surface where the upper shelves originally sat. If you plan to position objects on the top surface these patches wouldn’t be particularly noticeable.
