Early Midcentury Vintage Dark Oak Chest of Drawers

We’re always charmed by old-fashioned pieces of solidly-made furniture like this. These are the homes’ quiet, reliable workhorses, serving our needs with no fuss and frivolity, and they slot effortlessly into the modern home. This medium chest of drawers offers much storage with four spacious drawers and it’s an every-day piece with life’s knocks and marks on show so you don’t need to feel precious about it. Well-made in solid mid-dark oak with brass plate handles, it’s British in original and dates from the 1930s-1940s.

Description

This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good, used condition. We have cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood but otherwise left the original finish well alone, and as such it comes with some knocks and marks, in line with its age and use. All four drawers slide with ease and feature dovetail joints. The interior wood in each drawer is clean and in good order, with only minor marks through use.  The external wood comes with superficial wear and tear which can be seen across our photos. This is primarily on the top surface. We have however opted to leave this well alone – completing a full restoration would remove its history and charm in our view. We love it’s rather rustic good looks. It’s a very well-made, solid oak piece (so heavy!) with no signs of repair. Sadly there is no maker’s mark anywhere but it’s a classic early midcentury British piece, most likely made in the 1930s. Our photos give an accurate sense of the condition.
