Danish Extendable Teak Dining Table by Benny Linden

This is something of a design classic. A solid teak extending table, originally designed by Benny Linden of Denmark in the 1960s and constructed to a very high specification in Thailand, before being exported to Europe. It’s an eye-catching piece of midcentury design whose appeal endures as truly classic design does. The chunky legs and table top are softened by the thick curved band around the edges, but the star of the show here is the outstanding wood grain with a pattern that repeats across the top surface including the extension section. In its regular mode, it’s a generous round that will comfortably seat four. Extended, it will seat six and this section is easily implemented with an integrated folding mechanism within the table. A handsome piece for the stylish, considered modern home.

Description

This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall excellent, used condition. We have cleaned the table and applied a natural beeswax polish. This particular table dates from the 1990s and is part of a set acquired together that included four dining chairs (also available as a separate listing). The integrated extension section is a touch darker than the side leaves, a common thing as it’s used / exposed less. The extending mechanism works perfectly. Clips are unhinged underneath and the two table halves are pulled apart and the extension folds out into position. The structure of the table is solid and sturdy, and there is no sign of any damage or repair. There are some light, superficial scuffs and marks here and there that you would expect from a piece of this age and nature, but nothing that detracts from the overall look or appeal of this stylish table. The frame and legs are solid teak.
