British Vintage 1960’s William Lawrence Teak Chest of Drawers

This chest of drawers is a fantastic example of original, midcentury British design and it dates from the late 1960’s. Designed and made by William Lawrence of Nottingham, it has unusual legs and ‘handle-less’ drawers, creating clean, unfussy lines and they make for an eye-catching piece. With four generous drawers, this would fit into a bedroom or family space, mixing easily with furniture of other styles and periods.

Description

The chest of drawer is in good-excellent vintage condition with few signs of wear.  As you would expect with an attributed piece, this is a well made piece of furniture and all four drawers move with ease. A repair has been made to the side of the top drawer. The repair is solid and well-done, and it’s not visible from the front when the drawer is closed. Indeed it’s not particularly noticeable at all. The top surface is in good order too with a minor, light scratch which doesn’t detract in any way. The back of the unit looks a touch scruffy now and there are some chips to the veneer at the base here but this is at the back and therefore isn’t visible against a wall. See our photos for an accurate sense of overall condition and colour. The original marker’s gold stamp ‘William Lawrence of Nottingham’ can be found in the top drawer.
