Rare Danish Vintage 1970s Bramin Slate & Oak Sofa / Coffee Table

A very rare, attributed sofa table from celebrated, Danish midcentury furniture manufacturers, Bramin. Bramin worked with many well-respected Danish designers, but their most successful collaboration was with  HW Klein, a Norwegian-born designer who moved to Denmark in 1960 to work for the company.  The design of the table is the same as our H.W Klein Oak Two Seater Sofa, which means that although there is little information available about this particular table, we can confirm it’s a HW Klein design from the late 1960s. It’s a striking, statement piece of furniture, with a solid curved oak frame, supporting a chunky (and very heavy!) textured piece of solid, black slate.  This is a sofa table – these are larger and taller than coffee tables and are designed to be set just in front of a large sofa. These were particularly fashionable in the 1960s / 1970s and are very Scandinavian. The overall effect of this sofa table is a bold and dramatic. It’s a naturalistic blend of dark stone and light wood that looks as contemporary and relevant today as it did when it came out of the Bramin factory.

Description

This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. We would describe it as in very good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the solid oak wooden frame, applying a natural wax to restore the shine and protect the wood. The slate top has been gently washed. It is solid and sturdy with no movement in any of the  joints or the legs. There are some minor, age-related marks and scuffs to the table frame – these can be seen in the pictures and do not effect the overall look or appeal of the piece. The very heavy, solid black slate table top is removable and simply rests on the frame. It is in excellent condition with no marks to the surface. The Bramin maker’s label is still attached to the bottom of the table frame and can be seen in the photos. Note: this is a very heavy piece.
