Midcentury 1960s Austinsuite Teak Dressing Table with Rosewood Handles

Made in the mid-late 1960s and designed by Frank Guille for British furniture maker, Austinsuite, this is a beautiful, elegant dressing table with slimline proportions and a clean, minimalist style . Featuring a large adjustable mirror and space to tuck in a stool or chair, there are four drawers for storing powders and potions. We love the seamless lines across the front and it’s the dark rosewood, integral drawer handles that add that crucial note of distinction, elevating this to a very handsome piece of design where wood placement has been carefully considered. The mirror can be removed for this to work as a desk, understanding that it’s shallower than a conventional desk so suited to laptop home working.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the dressing table and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. The four drawers slide with ease and are in good, clean order throughout. There are some marks and rings on the top surface along with some knocks and minor surface marks on the drawer fronts, to be expected with the piece’s age and function. These don’t detract from its considerable appeal though. The legs carry some minor scuffs and knocks too but these aren’t really noticeable. The large mirror is set in place with upright brackets at the back and it then slots onto metal pegs. The mirror does angle via this metal mechanism but this is a little loose now so the mirror is prone to droop into an upright position,  as shown in our photos. The mirror and brackets can be easily removed if you wished to use the item as a desk. This is a really well made, solidly constructed piece with no signs of repair. The Austinsuite maker’s stamp can be seen inside the top drawer and it dates from the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
